Slides from today’s Q&A: Grin and Bear It.

SOTW Mar 30 Grin and BearTerrific attendance on our SOTW Q&A webinar today. I was asked by several people if would provide a copy of my slide presentation. So, I have copied them to a PDF and attached it below. (Hover your mouse over the top right corner of the PDF. A tab labelled ‘pop out’ will appear. Click on it if you want to open a file that you can then save to your computer).

Interesting market today. All the major indices in the US opened sharply higher and held on to their gains throughout the session. In Canada, the TSX was more volatile, reaching a high 182 point gain before losing ground in the late afternoon, still closing up 111 points in preliminary results.

Below is an intraday graph of the TSX Composite.

  1. This could be an idea to pursue
In our portfolios we have made tens of thousands this year when we have bought US stocks with our Cdn dollars.

Not a word is mentioned about how best to hedge the dollar effect.
VV US does not think about this but we should.

    Have a good day

    1. Hi Bertrand, you are correct. The currency move this year has underscored the importance of having some exposure to the US market for diversification and risk management. The US economy is the world’s largest and the market is arguably the most diversified. It’s market offers an impressive choice of industry leaders worldwide.
